Do you have a metaphor for life?

Question: Do you have a metaphor for life?

Is life a journey? A quest? A battle? A race?

Is life a garden?

Or perhaps a tapestry? Or a quilt?

A song? A play? Improv?

Is it a resumé?

Does she who dies with the most toys really win?

What is life?

  1. I used to have a business named Life Tapestries. It's the reason I have the email I use - because my tapestry was being rewoven... and still is. Life as a tapestry is kind of a cliche (just ask Carole King), but it makes sense to me... a picture woven from all the threads and bits and scraps that contribute to the way we define ourself... our family - our history - our health, mental outlook, education, friends, spirituality, life experiences, etc etc etc. I suppose I need to write about that sometime...

    1. Annie, thank you for posting! That image of a tapestry is beautiful. I never thought about it before in terms of bits and scraps, but that's lovely - that even little pieces can be worked in, included, made to shine, contribute to the beauty of the image and the strength of the fabric. As for you writing about it sometime...yes, please! :)

  2. Thank you! Yes... the little bits and scraps are essential. If it was sewn with nothing but the same kind of thread in different colors, it might be pretty, but it would not have texture and depth - more like a photo than a tapestry. The hurts, the fears, the sorrows... the "bumpy places" in life must take their place alongside the joys and celebrations to give our tapestry it's true and unique beauty!
